Three Common Barries in Technology
There are many barriers in integrating technology into the classroom. According to the article Barriers to Adopting Technology for Teaching and Learning by Darrell L. Butler and Martin Sellbom the three major ones is lack of institution support, lack of financial support, and, most importantly, lack of time to learn new technologies.
Lot of school does not have the funding and then when there is funding the software is usual out dated by the time the students are able to use it. One way solve this is trying to have a committee that can work with the software companies to help get the latest up to date software.
The second concern is the institutional support. According to “Darrell L. Butler and Martin Sellbom” they say it is because of inadequate campus support because it is not corrected in a timely fashion and does not take the problem seriously. I have seen in schools myself that sometimes there is not enough techs to help fix all the computers that go down. Some ways that would help to solve this problem would hold more faculties meeting just on technology problems so that they can express their concerns and that way don’t feel like they are complaining. Have more staff training to assure that it is truly a problem.
The third problem is finding the time to learn new technologies. Teachers have some must already on their plates today that they feel overwhelm with all the new technology. The older teachers feel that they are teaching adequately without all the fancy tools. But, as a new teacher I am finding that we have to include technology because we as teacher would not be teaching to our fullest ability. To solve this problem we can hold more technology discussions and organize workshop to help everyone to keep up with new information.
